Work started on the grottoes around the year 493, during the Northern Wei Dynasty, and continued for the next 400 years. In total there are 2,345 caves and niches, housing more than 100,000 statues of Buddha, Bodhisattvas and Arhats, together with 2,840 inscribed stone tablets and over 60 stone stupas. Among them, the most representative caves are: Guyang Cave, Binyang Cave, The Lotus (Lianhua) Cave of Northern Wei, Qianxi Temple, Cave of Ten Thousand Buddhas (Wanfuo), Fengxian Temple and Kanjing Temple. On November 30, 2000, the Longmen Grottoes were approved by the 24th UN Heritage Commission to be put on the List of World Cultural Heritage.We will spend about 2 hours here to fully explore this treasure houses of stone carving in China. Following with our guide,we drive to visit the “Origin of Buddhism” and “Ancestral Temple of Zen Buddhism” in China - White Horse Temple,or Baima Temple.It is located about 11 km (seven miles) east of Luoyang city. it is first built in 68 BC, and has a history of over 1,900 years, and it is the first temple built by government since its coming into China, regarded as the ancestor of China Buddhism.Walk along the central axis,we will visit the Hall of Heavenly Kings, Hall of the Great Buddha, Hall of Mahavira, Hall of Guidance and the Cool and Clear Terrace.Outside the White Horse Temple, there is a tiered brick pagoda named Qiyun Pagoda, which is actually the oldest of China's ancient pagodas. In the last go to exhibition of World Buddha Halls, Thailand Buddha Hall and India Buddha Hall. Last stop we come to the Old City of Luoyang,walk into local residence's life,try local food.If you are not interested in the Old City,we can also arrange you to visit the Luoyang Museum or Luoyang Minsu Museum.(Both of the museums are closed on Monday!) At the end of the tour,we will send you back to your Luoyang hotel or to the Luoyang Longmen Bullet Train Station depending on your departure time of bullet train.Thanks for travle with us today!
