• Asahiyama Zoo

The highlight of Asahiyama Zoo is the “behavioral exhibition” letting visitors see animals up close. This exhibition is very popular as it allows each animal to show their natural characteristics, behaviors and sensitivity, which surprises and delights visitors. During the Nom Nom time, learn about their life, habits and features from handlers as they feed the animals. The penguins' walk during winter is also popular.

• Ueno Farm (closed in winter; opening time in 2023: April 21 - October 15, subject to change)

An English-style perennial plant garden. View flowers growing in Hokkaido's climate throughout the year. This garden created by Hokkaido's climate and topography is named “Hokkaido Garden” and is promoted across Japan. There is a nursery selling plants, a shop for gifts and garden goods, and the NAYA café, a café renovated from an old shed where you can enjoy food and desserts prepared with local ingredients.

• Miura Ayako Literature Museum

A museum featuring the Asahikawa-born writer, Ayako Miura who wrote the famous “Freezing Point”. This museum which highlights her life and works comprises of 5 exhibit rooms on the theme, “Light, Love, and the Brightness of Life” and displays her handwritten manuscripts, literary works, etc. The outdoor café (wood deck terrace) with a beautiful view of foreign trees is open during the summer.
